From its founding in 1954 till now, Radio Hoyer has been providing our listeners with the best music, relevant news and educational programs. Always striving to provide the best information and entertainment, we believe in innovation, while still retaining some of the roots that made Radio Hoyer the number one radio station on the island. Mar 10th, 1954
Radio Hoyer was founded​

In 1954, Horacio Hoyer founded Radio Hoyer with the main purpose of giving the people of Curaçao a radio station in their own language and with their own local music on the 1010AM channel.

1955
Kids Talent Show - "Un bista riba nos Estrellanan"

In 1955, Radio Hoyer introduced their first talent show "Un bista riba nos estrellasnan" where young children could sign up and show their talents. Here, some great artists like miss Hortance Sarmaat and miss Greta Martha were born.

1959
Radio Hoyer 2 was founded

In 1959, Radio Hoyer 2 was founded as to give also the European inhabitants of Curaçao, music and news in Dutch and English on the 1500AM channel.

 

1960
Horacio Hoyer founded "Bos di Boneiru" in Bonaire

In 1960, Horacio Hoyer decided to start a third radio station, this time on Bonaire. "Bos di Boneiru" was it was called, became the first radio station on the island. The whole team was flown over to Bonaire for the official opening.

Mar 10th, 1984
Radio Hoyer started transmitting fully on solar energy

In 1984, after exactly 37 years after the founding of Radio Hoyer, the station also started transmitting on the FM channels. This was done in a very special way, as Radio Hoyer started transmitting as the first commercial station in the world, solely on solar energy. That was the moment when our slogan "E Solo di Pueblo" was born.

1984
Award "Solo di Oro" was introduced

In 1984, the team of Radio Hoyer also introduced the "Solo di Oro" award to grant to persons or companies who have accomplished great things during the year. Also three "Rayonan di Solo" prizes were given to stimulate people and organizations who were on the right track with their jobs and activities.

1985
Radio Hoyer got the exclusive rights to transmit "Grand Prix Curaçao"

In 1985, Radio Hoyer got the exclusive rights to transmit the Grand Prix Curaçao. A grand event where Radio Hoyer's team reported from different areas around the circuit and provided a spectacular transmission.

1995
The Pietermaai square was officially named "Plasa Horacio Hoyer"

In 1995, the Pietermaai Square was officially named "Plasa Horacio Hoyer".

2004
Radio Hoyer turns 50 years

In 2004 Radio Hoyer celebrated bringing 50 years of music and informational and educational programs to the public.

2014
Radio Hoyer turns 60 years

In 2014 Radio Hoyer turned 60 and we celebrated that in a big way on Plasa Horacio Hoyer with the people of Curaçao with music and cultural activities.
